We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful

I was extremely happy for Allison and her new laptop. Then it happened: Tech Envy. My computer has been slowing down quite a bit in the last year. I've had it for six years and it has served me well. After seeing Allison's shiny and speedy new machine, I quickly determined that I could no longer live with the coal powered antique that currently occupied my desk. So what did I do? I cashed in on all the hard computer research that my lovely wife has acquired, and went out and bought my own special super-quick laptop. Yes, I am pathetic.

"Everything's so much faster! I can do five times as much!"

So I got a new computer, y'all. I am astounded by its speed, but that's not saying much seeing as though my last one was purchased in late 2001. (Also, here's a hot tip for you: buy a Dell, call them up to complain about how something wasn't to your liking, and then watch your credit card statement for the $100 bribe credit they'll give you in exchange for leaving them alone and not returning anything. Worked for me!)

Paul and I have come up with a really cool Halloween costume idea, but I'm not sure how we'll dress the cats... Oh, wait -- here we go! Can't go wrong with any of these. I can't wait to give Harriet even more reasons to claw our eyes out as we sleep!

I'm so ridiculously excited to have a laptop that weighs less than ten pounds and is capable of playing videos. I'm also completely exhausted, and it's hard to decide whether to go to bed or watch YouTube videos until I pass out.

Rock out with your socks out

About a month or so ago, I was planning to buy a new laptop. After realizing that our tax refund wasn't going to be as big as I initially thought, I decided to put that off for a while. Maybe next year. Next year, maybe I'll get this.

On to the knittin'...

Finally finished those damn Gryffindor scarves for my labmates. They were certainly tedious, but they look real nice. Here's the one I made for Allison, who shares my office (two Allisons in one room! Hilarious!) It's freaking huge, but it'll serve her well when she's driving her scooter to campus on those lovely thirty-degree rainy mornings. Too bad I didn't finish it a week ago.

(I appear to have no arms in this picture. Creepy.)

Guess what? I finished my first-ever pair of socks! They're a bit wonky (and the photo's a bit blurry), but they're mine; therefore, they are awesome. Behold!

So, now that I'm addicted, I started a pair for Paul, too. I'm using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino: 55% merino, 33% microfiber, 12% cashmere, 100% yum. Harriet helped me with the cuff:

Where were you today, Harriet, when I turned the heel? Huh? WHERE WERE YOU?!?!?
